Ho Ho Ho

Happy Holidays everyone!  It’s holiday season, here’s the first set of photos for those interested.  Tonight we hosted the Christmas Party with the Robinson’s, Jaymie’s “adopted” family.  It was lots of fun, but I’m pooped.  We’ll probably get some more pictures, there was a pro photographer here taking the nice shots.  I just got some quick ones so people can see the kids.

I guess daddy gets coal for giving Santa Easter Bunny ears.

Chewy Peanut Butter Brownies

Filed October 8, 2007 at 7:03 am under Grog and Salmagundi by TJ

From The Fannie Farmer Cookbook (1990):

Chewy Peanut Butter Brownies

1/2 C. peanut butter
4 T butter, softened  (I use real butter, salted)
1 C. brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla (I use real vanilla — not that imitation stuff)
2 eggs
2/3 C. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt1/2 C. chopped salted peanuts (I just throw in a bunch & don’t chop them)

You can use the recipe’s instructions or just do what I do:  Melt the butter in a big bowl & add all of the other ingredients except the peanuts.  Stir.  Add peanuts.  Stir.

Bake in a greased 8-inch square baking pan at 350 degrees for 25 - 30 minutes.

Also good with chocolate chips on top.

The recipe says this makes 16 servings.  Yeah, right…  You may want to double or quad the recipe…

Enjoy!

Test of Windows Live Writer

Filed September 26, 2007 at 9:51 pm under Uncategorized by TJ

I just got Vista installed on my laptop, and am playing around with a lot of the little "features" that I am finding that are available with Vista and possibly with XP.  This post is being written in Windows Live Writer Beta, which apparently does a pretty kickass job of integrating into a Wordpress Blog, allowing for authoring a Wordpress, and from the looks of it, virtually any other blog, directly from a Windows app - and it looks kind of promising.  I don’t know about advanced posting capabilities, such as sending an email on a new post, I guess we will just have to find out when I publish this.

So, if you have a blog, and are interested, be sure to check out Windows Live Writer, which can be downloaded at: http://get.live.com/WL/more

Again, I am just sorting through this stuff for my first time, so this is not an endorsement to use it, just a quick nod to check it out for yourself.

Chickenbawks

Filed September 18, 2007 at 9:55 pm under Boring Stuff and Family by TJ

That’s what Tanner says, she has Chickenbawks, and they go bawk, bawk, like a chicken goes.  Yep, she broke out with chicken pox last Friday, so we have been doing a decent job keeping her away from people.  I, myself, have been on vacation all week, helping deal with Tanner, who has been a real character all week.  You can tell she feels like crap.

So, guess who came down with chickenbawks this evening?  Most people who know me know I’ve never had them before.  I’m not looking forward to the next week - I have a Olympic Triathlon scheduled for Saturday, as well as a wedding Saturday evening.  We’ll have to see how that goes.  So I guess for now, I’ll just leave you with a quote:

 ”Bawk, bawk!”

Guess who’s walking now?

Workin’ hard

What have I been doing lately?  I’ve mentioned that I’ve been doing some triathlons a bit, but I don’t know if I mentioned that I have been coaching a few people for the same.  I’ve got one more to do this year, and am having  a blast doing them.  Last one is an International Olympic Distance race put on by the Purdue Triathlon Club in 2 weeks.  Interested in seeing how well I’m doing?  I’ve got my own website for that - yep another place to have to check for the crap I write.

The Lecture

Filed August 22, 2007 at 3:20 pm under Boring Stuff by TJ

Ever get one of those miserable colds that just won’t go away?  I’ve had one off and on for about a month now, and the last couple of days are “on”.  Ick.  I stayed home from work yesterday and today, and today have been sleeping on the couch for most of the afternoon.

The ebay link below is a great read, be sure to read some of the comments.  I am sure most of the parents out there have experienced this at one point in time or another.

You haven’t lived until you’ve gone grocery shopping with six kids in tow. I would rather swim, covered in bait, through the English Channel, be a contestant on Fear Factor when they’re having pig brains for lunch, or do fourth grade math than to take my six kids to the grocery store. Because I absolutely detest grocery shopping, I tend to put it off as long as possible. There comes a time, however, when you’re peering into your fridge and thinking, ‘Hmmm, what can I make with ketchup, Italian dressing, and half an onion,’ that you decide you cannot avoid going to the grocery store any longer. Before beginning this most treacherous mission, I gather all the kids together and give them “The Lecture“.

Feh…   Score at this point, Volkswagen 3.5, Tryons 0.  Yep, I picked up 1 more on Tuesday, a 1990 Cabriolet Carat, no real pictures yet, and the .5 comes from my involvement in getting yet another one - this one for my parents.  It’s a 1982 Silver that needs some work.

The 1990 needs a tuneup, a couple of small parts (O2 sensor, CTS Sensor) and a really good bath.   It’s an automatic with power windows, cruise control and AC.  The power window relay is not happy right now, so it will also be addressed probably this coming weekend.  Here’s the best I can do on the pictures:

I’ve started a new page to document the work that may need done to these, as well as any upgrades that happens - there’s tons of good info on these on the net, just not in 1 spot.
