Got to the Keys this AM. Beautiful, hot, sunny. Took Teressa out on a sailboat this afternoon. Dinner at Hurricane Hole. Off to bed early, as we are getting up early to do the tourist thing. In the mean time, check out the pictures of our time in Tampa at Bush Gardens as well as the Karoke at the bar afterwards that I managed to get Teressa to sing Brad Paisley’s Whiskey Lulliby. Also, pictures of Sanibel Island Beach.

News from the Keys…

Down in Key West, I stopped by my parents neighbors, who when they are not vacationing in Indiana, run a fantastic marina and resturant in Key West. It’s just on the east side of Cow Key Channel, called Hurricane Joe’s Bar and Grill or Hurricane Hole Marina. It was by far the best Sushi I ever had, as well as a dinner that included a fantastic very fresh caught fish. Story short, he owns the 100000th MGA built, I’ve seen it and sat in it. He has a website at: http://www.100000thmga.com/ Check it out.

I guess it’s going to be in several magazines and stuff coming up, as well as the MG show in Michigan this summer…

Pirates in Modern Drunkard Magazine…

Arrrrrr! Me ran across this very good article in Modern Drunkard Magazine about Pirates…

Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum

Well worth the read. Here’s a short excerpt (fair use) that was as fun as a chantey on a Jollyship:

In the late 1800s a crew of pirates attacked and looted a ship in the Gulf of Mexico that was bound for New Orleans. As they divvied up their loot they came across a crate containing a beautiful, hand-carved marble fireplace mantel from Italy. They were about to toss it overboard when one of the men read the shipping information and stopped in his tracks. The mantel was on its way to Lynchburg, Tennessee, and the home of none other than Jack Daniel. The pirates had so much respect for Old No. 7 whiskey, that they promptly repacked the mantel and paid to ship it to its rightful owner.

All this talk about the Keys, I realized I have never posted my pictures of the last time I was in Key West, which was during a cruise on my honeymoon. All the pictures of the honeymoon can be found here.

A1A is calling…

It’s too cold here in Indiana for this pirate; a case of cabin fever has got me itching for some warmth.

I leave in about 6 hours for the warmth of the Florida Keys. I’ll post pictures later… Last minute packing, laundry, and getting the house ready for Moose to house sit. Hopefully the doggies or the birdies don’t cause too much trouble for me bucko. I’d hate for him to be too addled from doing me the favor. I leave cold Indiana sometime in the middle of the night, with a stop in Nashville, TN to pick up my daughter before heading into the deep south, for some carribean nights, hoping for some steel drum music. A few days in Tampa will land us at Bush Gardens, and in Ft. Myers by Sunday night. Tuesday, we head to the Keys for a few days of rest and relaxation, searching for Hemmingway’s Ghost, some good beverages (Margaritas?) and some time around the Briny deep.

Blimey, all you landlubbers have really been taxing the server.

Greetings all you new people, I am not quite sure what happened, but I seem to have had 4500+ hits for the last 3 days on my website. Nothing real important to talk about today, but I figured I’d get my guestbook and contact pages working.

Pirate’s Orders: Use the guestbook and the contact form. Let me know who you are. Are you a pirate? Do you have a pirate’s bird?

*snicker* Wanna see my bird? *snicker*

Arg! Cannonball sized rust holes…

Filed March 19, 2005 at 9:15 pm under Boring Stuff by TJ

Finally got around to doing a TJ project today.

I was able to actually get a start on my MGB. I was originally planning on just pulling the head and sending it out, but for some reason, I pulled the windscreen, fenders, and doors …

today, and it is elevated about 2 feet off the ground. It’s kind of funny how things work, the rust was worse than I had expected. With the fenders off, it looks like someone has fired a cannon at my B, with the size of the rust holes. You can see pictures in this link to my Gallery. What a mess. I guess the B will be down for a month or so why I knock this out.

The bar wench broke Moose and myself

Now we are starting to get to something interesting here. Came home from work a bit early today so I could coordinate a software deployment, which ended sometime around 9 last night. When I got home, helped Moose get his car running (plugs). After everything, I figured I’d have myself a little beverage…

Short version of the story, I fixed Moose and myself a pretty stout beverage.  Afterwards, out to the garage for a smoke, and the bar wench (my lovely wife), shows up in the garage holding shot glasses, refusing to tell us what is in it.  Quick sniff, the shot is so smokey it smells like a forest fire.  Good Scotch…

Down the hatch…   ButterShots too…  Aparently, the wench used my $300 bottle of Scotch to make, what we have now termed, a “Butterscotch”.  Believe it or not it was quite good, I’d definetly recommend it, but using a $300 bottle of Scotch for it is quite a crime.  Several of those later (using cheaper Scotch) and Moose and I were hurting…

Have I mentioned I love a good single malt Scotch?  No blended stuff for me…

Currently in my scotch collection, I have the following:

Dalwhinnie 15 year
Macallan 25 year (The $300 bottle)
Glenlivet 18 year
Oban Distillers Edition
Glenfiddich 18 year

I like a good scotch, though dollar for dollar, my favorite is the Dalwhinnie.  Very smokey, lots of peat flavor.

As I said, I could just be lazy….

Had a great weekend, though I didn’t get everything acomplished I had hoped to. Maybe I set my goals too high, or maybe I’m just too lazy to get it all done.

Was planning on finishing the new nursery, my new office, then do the one thing that I have been wanting to do, pull the head off my 1973 MGB, to have the head milled, and a valve job done on it.

I’ve been so busy lately, I have not had the opportunity to work on the car. So, about 1PM last night, I finished up the caulking on the trim in the nursery, having put a second coat of poly on my desk earlier that night. Today I looked at the desk before i left for the office, and it may be OK, once I steel wool it, though I have a feeling it will require yet another coat of poly… Regardless, since I didn’t get everything done I had hoped, I must be lazy…. Moose’s blog lays out his rebuild of his 1971 “B”, my blog is not quite as structured, which is simmilar to the way my mind works. This will just be a collection of random thoughts about whatever is on my mind at the time, probably centering around pirates, booze, my desire to expatriate myself down in some tropical area; though this blog may sometimes just have something do to with my current surroundings, thoughts and ramblings.

I’m not lazy, though I may be drunk

OK, so I spent all this time setting up a homepage for my blog, and I have only included one post before this one in several days. I’ve been busy, too many projects to do, too little time. This week, I had a good plan for my projects, finish up the baby room, finish my office, then start on the “B”.  Well, got the doors, all the trim work and the chair rail hung in the nursery, as well as built the desk and did the trim in the office.  Was going to have everything caulked, sanded, stained and ready for paint yesterday.  That would have given me today to pull the head on my “B” to send it out to the machine shop.  Well, it’s after 12:30 in the afternoon, GI Jane is on TV, and I’m just not in the mood to work after the “family” issues this morning.  Maybe later today I’ll explain why I am a pirate, or something like that…
