Also mentioned in the arcticle in the topics (see blarg post below):
Some residents that live on the banks of Morse Reservoir are excited about a new group dedicated to preserving the peacefulness of living near the body of water. But others believe the group will make unnecessary changes that could harm the future of the recreation spot.
The Morse Waterways Association planned its first meeting for Monday night at Red Bridge Park in the hopes of recruiting new members to the small group. If that meeting was successful, the group may get together again July 11.”
See the arcticle for more information… or check out the Morse Waterways Association site.

From an arcticle in the Topics (serving my home town Noblesville):
Due to the lack of rain in the area, Indianapolis Water could start to drain the reservoir [Morse Reservoir] in the next week, according to Carolyn Mosby-Williams, from Veolia Water Indianapolis, the company that operates Indianapolis Water.
“That is a possibility,” she said. “We’re really encouraging people to be responsible and request that people try to be water wise”
The draining valve was still closed on Monday, according to the company Web site, and the reservoir is a little over 810 feet — the normal dam level.
Also on Monday, Veolia Water encouraged customers to stop all lawn watering. The company has been pumping 225 million gallons each day to provide customers with enough water.
Check the current water levels here. (when I can figure this out, I’ll add these and the local temp in the nav bar on the left instead of a external link).

It’s summertime, all the graduation parties in the neighborhood have finally come and gone, so I figured I’d dig this little piece up again in honor of all the recent graduates. It was attributed to Kurt Vonnegut, my favorite author next to Jimmy Buffett, but was actually not a speech that he did…

Wear SunscreenÂ
Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of ‘99
If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be
it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by
scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable
than my own meandering
experience. I will dispense this advice now.
Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not
understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and
recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before
you and how fabulous you really looked. You’re not as fat as you
imagine.
Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as
effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing
bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that
never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm
on some idle Tuesday.
Do one thing everyday that scares you
Sing
Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts, don’t put up with
people who are reckless with yours.
Floss
Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes
you’re behind; the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with
yourself.
Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you
succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch
Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your
life. the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22 what they
wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year
olds I know still don’t.
Get plenty of calcium.
Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.
Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe
you won’t, maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky
chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary; what ever you do, don’t
congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either. your
choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s. Enjoy your body,
use it every way you can. don’t be afraid of it, or what other people
think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever
own..
Dance
even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.
Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.
Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.
Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for
good.
Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the
people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you
should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and
lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you
knew when you were young.
Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live
in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel.
Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will
philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize
that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were
noble and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.
Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund,
maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one
might run out.
Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you’re 40, it will
look 85.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who
supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of
fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the
ugly parts and recycling it for more than
it’s worth.
But trust me on the sunscreen

Canon PowerShot S1 IS
I’ve spent enough time bitching about digital camera phones, people are starting to think I know all about digital cameras and phones… I can tell you, in doing some research for my own benefit, while looking for a new camera for myself, I have gained a bit of knowledge. In that knowledge, I have found one really good buy. This is probably the best mid priced digital camera out there, not only for it’s features, but for its accessories as well.
“With its super-long Zoom, amazing stability and true Movie Mode, the PowerShot S1 IS brings a new dimension to the PowerShot line. Equipped with a host of top-quality features, this stylishly compact camera lets you create stills and movies like you’ve never done before.”
One of the best features probably has to be the 10x optical zoom. Optical zoom is not the crappy blowing up of the pixels, but the extending of the lense (telephoto), which leads to really clear pictures. There are not many cameras out there with this super long zoom, and most are twice the cost. Another has to be the ability to take the camera down to an effective ISO of 50. That is pretty much unheard of. In bright outdoor scenery pictures, this will lend to have beautiful pictures. This camera can take a picture every 1.7 seconds, which is about 4 times faster than my existing “old school” Kodak digital. It has some pretty nice features in both the Auto (point and shoot) and the manual modes.

What makes this camera so amazing are the optional accessories for it. You can actually get a waterproof case for this camera, and take underwater pictures…. That’s perfect for a pirate like me who takes the majority of my pictures from on or around the lake.
Additionally, there are optional lense attachments to take the Optical zoom to nearly 20X or down to about a 15mm wide angle lense.
Needless to say, for the price, which I have seen for as little as $230 online (S2 model, released 2/05 is about $450 for the 5MP) the Canon PowerShot S1 IS is probably the best mid range digital camera out there currently.

Bimni top has finally arrived from Glastron, and been installed on the boat. It’s really nice with the top up, much cosier feeling, especially at night. Moose and I installed the top, 30+ mph wind gusts, just as a storm was blowing in. Didn’t do to shabby of a job, all things considering…

Just who is this “Moose” character I keep talking about? Below is a excerpt from my “about me” page. Additionally, you can go to Moose’s blog and check him out for yourself.
Greg “Moose” is, um, well, not quite sure how to explain Moose. He might as well be the brother I never had. I met Moose about fourteen years ago, when we were both in the same Army unit. In that sense, he’s an old army buddy. We lost touch when they shut our unit down. He went somewhere in Alabama, and I went to Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
I ran into Moose a few years later while in college at Vincennes University, in Vincennes, Indiana. That year, in Vincennes, I fished more than I probably ever had before. I caught a state record Crappie, weighing in at 4+ pounds, in the warm waters below the power plant at Turtle Creek, and a 6 pound large mouth at a Sportsman’s club pond, just north of Vincennes, after driving my Blazer through 4 feet of water to get there.
I guess that makes Moose an old college Chum. Being that we damn near flunked out, I guess he should just be called a fishing buddy.
After Vincennes, Moose and I rented an apartment in Noblesville, Indiana for a couple of months, until we decided to move to Tenessee. Tenessee lasted about 6 months, then Moose and I lost touch. He moved on to new horizons, as I did as well.
After I divorced my first wife, I moved back to Indiana. He aparently did the same. A mutual friend ended up getting us back in touch with each other.
Currently, and for the last couple of years, Moose has been my roommate, residing in the spare bedroom, and truely one of my best friends. He is a very dear and loyal friend. I guess that’s the best way to explain Moose.

TBear has gotten really good at skiing this summer, the first two days, we left the training wheels on her skis, until they fell off. That gave her a chance to see how it was to get up, before doing it for real. Once the training wheels broke off, she could get up as well as stay up. After a few days, she was in and out of the wake, as well as one handed (and waving outside the wake). She can stay up for quite awhile too. She actually skiied from the Waterfront in Cicero to the marina in Noblesville without falling, probably for 5-7 minutes or so.
Additionally, the lovely wife’s father has been out with us. Though he was unable to get up on skis (or a single ski in his case), we did manage to get him on the new tube for a hot lap of the north side of the lake. He was screaming like a little girl, though I think he had an OK time. Plan is to try again to get him up on skis later this summer.

A week ago, the lovely wife and I were able to attend the Jimmy Buffett Concert at the Nissan Pavilion, complements of Mike and Suz at Strategic Memory Solutions.
I think the lovely wife had fun. She was pretty tired, but it appears she had a good time.
The concert was fantastic. We had great seats for the first half of the concert, about 10 rows or so from the stage in the pavilion, and the second half, we sat in the Strategic Memory Solutions corporate box. We had a wonderful time, wonderful company, wonderful music, and wonderful margaritas.
More concert pictures available here, though the images are not that good…
Special thanks to Suz and Rick for hosting our stay. It was a great night away from the kids, and Jaymie and I slept WAY past the multiple calls for breakfast. For all your memory needs, call Suz or Mike at Strategic Memory.
Image was taken on my V710 Camera Phone, it sux as a camera, but has a pretty good radio and works well as a phone.

Sorry about no post for a week or so, life, sleep and a bunch of other stuff caught up with me.
I’ve also spent the last week trying to figure how to get the pictures off my V710 (Verizon) Camera Phone. Camera has “bluetooth” (not much of BT though) and a cable, but the only easy way to get pictures off the phone is to email them from the phone to the VZW PictPlace site (VZW charges like $.25 a pict). Then to top it off, afterwards, the pictures look like crap. Real disapointing.
Anyone have a setup that works better? I would expect easy cable or BT or other transfer, clear pictures, higher resolution (3mp would be nice). A very nice Motorola Cellular Radio is always a good thing as well, as I’ve never had luck with Kyocera and LG’s, though I would consider them. A real Bluetooth implementation is also an important thing…
I’m still of the impression that it is better to have separate phone/camera. Let me know if you have a setup that works better than what I have.
