Phone Numbers

For those of you who may be trying to contact me at my old cell phone number, it is currently not active. We’ve gone completely cellular, and I have ported my wired phone number over to my cell phone, as did Jaymie. If you need to contact us, here’s our phone numbers and email addresses:

TJ – 317-774-8762 – tj@tjtryon.com
Jaymie – 317-219-0400 – jaymiet@insightbb.com

These are the only phone numbers we have anymore, so if you try to call our old cell numbers, they will not go through…

Or send us an email.

Blogs for Xmas?

Filed December 26, 2005 at 6:12 pm under Uncategorized by TJ

Both Jaymie and TBear got a new digital camera for Christmas. So they have some place to post all their pictures, I’ve registered the tryonfamily.com internet domain. They now have blogs set up under that domain. Be sure to check them out by clicking the links for their sites on the left. Teressa has already done her first post, and even posted pictures, though Jaymie has not yet…

For any “Tryons” (or relatives of Tryons) who may want an easy to post website with picture galleries, please be sure to let me know, I can easily do a .tryonfamily.com website using the same software they are using. It’s a very easy program to use (Wordpress and Photopress).

Check out this Christmas pirate blog.

Holiday Traditions, a sauerbraten recipe

Filed December 23, 2005 at 10:39 pm under Uncategorized by TJ

I don’t know if it is a German thing, or just a family thing, but one of my favorite family traditions is having a sauerbraten dinner for Christmas. This year we are fortunate enough to have venison backstrap roasts to make it with, compliments of my *LARGE* 8 pointer from early on in bow season (more info and pictures later)…

You ask, what is sauerbraten? It’s a wonderful traditional German meal. Roughly translated, it’s "Sour (pickled) Beef". Doesn’t sound too good? That’s more for me then…

I finally got my mom to tell me how to make it:

1. Soak roast (beef, venison, etc.) in a marinade consisting of white vinegar, whole black pepper corns, bay leaves and onion for at least 24 hours. 2-3 days is better, though 24 hours is a minimum.

2. Remove roast from marinade. Place in roasting pan. Add burgandy or other red wine (2-3 inches in roasting pan) , as well as 1/2 cup water/bullion (3tbs.) Slow roast in pan for as long as possible (3-5 hours at 275, 2-3 hours at 350, etc.) until done.

3. Remove meat from roasting pan. Make gravy from the wine/bullion liquid the roast cooked in, by pouring 2-4 tbs. cornstarch dissolved in 1/2 cup water into the wine/bullion mixture. Heat until thickens. Add meat back to the gravy. Enjoy!

When you eat sauerbraten, there are two requisite side dishes. The first is potatoe pancakes, and the second is red cabbage. When cooking red cabbage, I add sausage, apples as well as red wine. I love all potatoe pancakes. I’ve made them from potatoes as well as out of the box. Either eay are great. If you are buying boxed potatoe pancakes, try to find the Manischewitz brand. They are the best. Panini are Ok, just not as good…

Everyone have a wonderful holiday season!

Jose Cuervo Christmas Cookies

Filed December 23, 2005 at 10:38 pm under Uncategorized by TJ

My mom was a home ecconomics teacher for a long time, she’s a great cook. I am sure she though that I’d never find a woman to put up with my shit, so she taught me how to cook so I would not starve to death. As a result, I usually eat pretty good… Additionally, I always have these great holiday recipes.

Jose Cuervo Christmas Cookies

1 cup of water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup of brown sugar
1 cup lemon juice
4 large eggs
1 cup nuts
2 cups of dried fruit
1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila

Sample the Cuervo to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the Cuervo again, to be sure it is of the highest quality – pour one level cup and drink.

Turn on the electric mixer…Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl.

Add one teaspoon of sugar…Beat again. At this point it’s best to make sure the Cuervo is still OK, try another cup ..just in case.

Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit, Pick the frigging fruit off floor… Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity.

Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Who giveshz a sheet. Check the Jose Cuervo. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table.

Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven.

Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don’t forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the dishwasher.

CHERRY MISTMAS

Ouch…

Well, many may not know, the reason for very few postings is that, mid October (14th), I injured myself. Moving/lifting/twisting a computer, I sneezed, and in doing so, I herniated a disk in my neck (C6/C7). Lots of pain STILL and the right hand/arm has been numb or had pins and needles for most of the time. I can’t pick up anything in my right hand (I’ve dropped many glasses of water, toothbrush, remote, etc. – have not dropped the baby yet…)

Well, you see, I can’t really type easily now, as my right hand does not work well, and after I take the pain meds and muscle relaxers, I don’t want to do much of anything else but sleep or veg on the TV.

Got a cortizone shot in the disk itself today, and it had a nerve painkiller that was injected into the nerve/disk itself. For now I’m feeling a little better. Hopefully it will last, because if not, next step is surgery. Yech…
